The autumn school is organized by the CENTRAL research project
Current Varieties of Central European Languages in the Light of Digital Text Corpora (PI: Roland Meyer), a cooperation between the Chair of West Slavic Languages (HU Berlin / Roland Meyer), the Institute of the Czech National Corpus (Charles University, Prague / Václav Cvrček), the Institute of Polish Language (University of Warsaw / Marek Łaziński), and the Institute of Slavistics (University of Vienna / Emmerich Kehlih).
At the Chair of West Slavic Languages (HU Berlin), we conduct research on Czech, Polish and (some) Russian, ranging from historical syntax to modern grammar, pragmatics, language acquisition and contact. A special focus is on building Slavic diachronic and spoken language corpora, and on analyzing Slavic corpus data.
Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin is an excellent choice for
studying Slavic linguistics. We offer a four-year
B.A. program in Slavic Languages and Literatures, and a two-year M.A. program in Slavic Linguistics (
Master Slawische Sprachen). About 25% of the EU citizens and about 330 Mio. people worldwide have a Slavic mother tongue. Slavic languages are of increasing importance internationally, and properly educated linguists of these languages have good job opportunities. We do encourage you to
become an expert in Slavic languages and linguistics in Berlin!
Our M.A. program is unique in
focusing the linguistics of two Slavic languages (to be chosen individually) in the context of modern linguistic research. Our regular coursework includes topics like grammatical theory, language usage, language history, and language contact, with specializations in multilingualism consulting or in language technology.
